Rolland and his family barely have enough to get him and his brother through college, but they manage by focusing on their education and minimizing their expenses. All of this change however when Rolland meets Sara in church. Rolland is instantly smitten by Mary, and starts to court her. Sara falls for Rolland as well, and they become a couple. Problems arise when Mary’s aunts, who support her studies, disapprove of her being in a relationship. Unable to stop their relationship, the aunts make Mary go back to her province and quit school. Rolland steps up to help Mary, who by then already graduated and started working. He and Mary already have plans to work abroad together, and settle down after saving enough money. To protect their dream, Rolland finances Mary’s last year in college, making a lot of sacrifices in doing so. He sets aside a large portion of his salary for Mary. That year is hard but worth it, as Mary graduates without delay. Mary soon finds a job in the Middle East. Just as it seems as if their dreams are coming to fruition, Mary’s calls and texts to Rolland become fewer and fewer, until she breaks up with Rolland saying she wants to concentrate on work. Rolland accepts this, thinking they’ll get back together when her contract ends. But eventually he finds out that Mary has a new boyfriend in the Middle East. Rolland’s world crumbles. He tries to get over Mary. He gets his life together by focusing on work, and becoming more involved with office activities. Eventually he finds a new love in Erika, whom he begins to court. Eight months after their breakup, Mary calls to inform him that she is back in the Philippines and is pregnant. Rolland considers meeting with her again, but decides against it to be fair with Erika whom he is courting then. Rolland moves on, prepared to give as much to his new love as he can.
